Easter competition winners are delighted with their new patio

26 September 2018

Mrs and Mrs Nash, from Abingdon in Oxfordshire, were the lucky winners of the competition we ran over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, and are now enjoying their prize of a brand-new patio. Supplied by our sister company, AWBS Landscaping and Building Supplies, and installed by us, the winners are delighted with their finished patio and with the quality of the products and professional installation.

Contemporary style stone grey patio

The fantastic prize of a new patio included a choice of Indian sandstone paving from the AWBS Exclusive range, with professional installation by us. Mr and Mrs Nash opted for the beautiful Stone Grey sandstone paving slabs, which we laid in a random pattern, with AWBS Stone Grey paving around it as a border. The lovely light and dark grey tones of this paving were a perfect choice for their contemporary styled garden.

New patio installation

As with any landscaping project we undertake, the first thing we needed to do was a site survey. It was at this point we became aware of the fact that Mr and Mrs Nash’s garden sloped, and the potential problems this could pose when it came to laying their new patio. The garden sloped towards the back of the property and, as the new patio was to be positioned away from the rear of the house, to one side of the garden, we had to find a way to design a paving solution to accommodate this. Even more so as the whole area is viewed directly from the conservatory.

Raised patio with retaining walls

“The design we created for the new patio involved raising the area, by introducing retaining walls set to the proposed angled perimeter of the design. By using blue engineering bricks as the facing bricks, we created a wall that was perfectly in keeping with the Stone Grey Indian sandstone paving.”  Brian Proffitt, AWBS Landscaping

Perfect for any outside project, the solid blue engineering bricks are frost proof and, alongside the sandstone paving slabs and stone grey paving border, offered the perfect solution for the sloping garden. We used Pavestone Grey Pointfix to point the new patio, to give a sleek and seamless finishing touch. The size of the finished patio was 30m2 and it took us just six days to complete the project, even with having to overcome the problem with the sloping garden.

Our lucky competition winners are not only thrilled with their new patio, but also the design we created and the speed of our installation.

“We are so pleased with our new patio and it’s beaten all our expectations. AWBS Landscaping came to the house and helped to plan our patio. Our garden wasn’t the easiest due to the sloping, but they overcame this difficulty and their idea was fantastic and has totally transformed our garden. The team that came to lay the patio were extremely polite, tidy and prompt, leaving the garden immaculate at the end of each day. Friends and family have been so impressed too! With the amazing hot summer we’ve had, we’ve enjoyed being out in the garden, thanks to our new patio. We can’t recommend AWBS enough, from the planning right through to the laying of our new patio, which was a very quick process.” Mr and Mrs Nash
