Wood Effect Porcelain Paving
The large deck to the rear of this large house in Oxford was rotten and needed to be replaced. The owner chose wood effect porcelain paving which would look like a timber deck but offer the practicality and safety of a stone patio.

Rotten timber decking transformed with modern wood effect porcelain paving
When asked by Abingdon homeowners to remove and replace rotten timber decking with porcelain paving that re-creates a decking effect, the AWBS Landscaping team were up for the challenge and achieved excellent results.
We knew from experience that Pavestone’s Crosswood porcelain paving would be the ideal solution for this Oxfordshire garden. Not only does the attractive wood effect paving achieve that authentic timber look but it also brings with it the high durability and low water absorption rates that define porcelain paving.
On arrival, we removed the rotten deck and frame before clearing the site to install a block work retaining foundation. For added resilience, the base consisted of weed membrane, clean hardcore, strengthening mesh and a layer of concrete.
When it came to replacing the rotten timber decking, the perimeter paving was carefully cut and laid in a single linear running pattern for a neat finish. To enhance the appearance of a natural timber deck, the wood effect paving – which is produced by Pavestone in 1200mm x 300mm plank format – was laid inside the border at an orientation of 45-degrees to the house.
This porcelain paving project required a lot of precise cutting and, while it was tricky, we’re sure you will agree our skilled landscaping professionals achieved that “decking look” to a tee. What is more, our Abingdon clients are left with attractive low-maintenance wood look patio that is not slippery underfoot and will last the tests of time and British weather.
