Our landscaping team was delighted to get the chance to create a large terraced patio area for sister business Oxford Garden Centre over five weeks at the start of 2019. This included installing a beautiful blend of Digby porcelain paving and Pavestone porcelain paving as well as planting up the beds with flora fresh from Oxfordshire’s best garden centre!

AWBS owner, Adrian White, had a landscaping design commissioned and our landscaping installation team set to work. The challenge was to overcome the sloping site, which was addressed by incorporating a split-level design and using Aco Channel Drainage solutions. We were also tasked with carrying out the build in a restricted worksite area while maintaining access for the public from the cafe and to all areas of the garden centre. But we overcame the odds to produce something rather special…

In the photos of the final build, you’ll see that as you approach the café courtyard you’re greeted by Digby porcelain cobble paving in Namur. This combines deep browns and flecks of grey for a warm and welcoming multi-tonal look. Digby Dusk Granitite paving slabs were also chosen as copings.

The majority of the paving is divided into two colour-ways from the Pavestone porcelain paving slab range. The darker and more contemporary Mude is complemented beautifully by the light, airy and classic Soile, both of which are new to AWBS’s outdoor porcelain tile collection for 2019. Pavestone porcelain wall cladding in the same mix was chosen to coordinate with the paving and both were brought together with clean lines of Larsen Tile Grout in Ivory.

Fantastic finishing touches were achieved by adding polished black pebbles (20-40mm) to edge the lower area – which adds a cool contrast in both shade and texture – and installing a Grange Tongue and Groove Gate under the fully clad arch for a glint of modern grotto glamour.

We’re sure you’ll agree that the feature walling brings the whole project together and provides a stunning backdrop to the Pavestone porcelain paving as well as a focal point for the planting. A variety of bedding plants, grasses and trees were chosen by our landscaping team with help from Oxford Garden Centre’s horticultural experts to add architectural interest and a splash of colour to the borders.
