Retaining stone wall installed to replace a rotten timber palisade style previous wall.
This recent stone walling installation project in Sherrington, Oxfordshire, saw us return to an old customer from 12 years prior. We had originally installed a log palisade retaining wall in their large garden with steps leading down from the patio to the lawn. Over time, however, some of the log palisades had become rotten and needed replacing.
The client asked our design team to come up with a solution that would last a lifetime, rather than just a decade. We suggested replacing the entire wall with a single coursed re-constituted stone retaining wall from our extensive walling stone range. This solution had three advantages: a more rigid construction than log palisades, a rustic look to the homeowners’ taste, and a structure that would last the test of time.
The homeowners chose Bekstone Buff Black Walling, which boasts a rustic tubled finish. For the retaining walls, our garden landscaping team installed approximately 800 of these stones in various sizes ranging from 65x305mm to 140x229mm. This variation in block sizes made for a more attractive look similar to traditional stone walls, suiting the bucolic environment of the suburban garden.
The end result is a stunning area of stone walling which keeps the original layout of the garden. The homeowners were delighted with our work, which took a total of 10 days, and are looking forward to many more happy years in the garden without having to worry about wear and tear.
