New Driveway & Drainage
New block paved driveway and drainage to replace worn tarmac
- 116m2 of Brett Alpha in Silver Haze colouring
- 36 Linear metres of Brett Drivestyle kerb units
- Aco rainwater drainage channels
This new driveway project in Yarnells Hill, Oxford, called for careful planning and a clever drainage solution.
The homeowners wanted to stick with the curved layout of the old concrete driveway, but with a more attractive blocked paving solution in its place. The main challenge, though, was the sloping nature of the driveway. The slope ran from the street back down towards the house, which increased the risk of surface rainwater entering the property. As such, the new driveway had to include an efficient drainage system that could deal with large amounts of water.
Our team began by installing several Aco rainwater channels laterally across the driveway and against the building. These galvanised-top rain channels can withstand vehicle and pedestrian traffic up to 1.5 tonnes, making them ideal for driveways. In this instance, we made sure to connect the channels to the existing soakaway system, before installing a brand-new soakaway under the driveway.
The final step was to install an attractive block paving solution. The unusual shape of the driveway called for a quality raised kerb that would do justice to the curved borders. The homeowners picked out Brett’s Drivestyle kerb units in charcoal, as well as Brett Alpha block paving in Silver Haze. We spent several days laying these stones in an elegant curved pattern. The result is a beautifully shaped driveway with dark tones that complement each other well.
