This project involved replacing a jaded L-shaped driveway in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, with a brand new block paved driveway solution. We were faced with a sloping site which fell away to the property, calling for a creative drainage solution as part of the project.
The homeowners, Mr & Mrs B, knew they wanted a cobble effect for their new driveway. We invited them to browse our Brett block paving range, which features a host of cobbled and multi-shaded pave stones. They eventually decided on the Brett Beta block paving in Silver Haze, as they liked the dark grey slate textures.
Our main challenge in the installation was to deal with the sloping ground. We installed an efficient drainage system using Aco rainwater channels across the driveway in front of the building. These were then connected to two new soakaways, which we installed under the driveway. The soakaways are made using Polystorm-R water storage modules that collect water before dispersing it locally back into the ground.
We then laid the block paving in a random linear pattern to achieve the full cobbled look. This was capped off with a border course using Brett Omega block paving. In order to retain the higher ground levels against the fence and boundary wall, we opted to use raise kerbs on two sides of the driveway.
Mr & Mrs B were very happy with our work, which was completed promptly in 12 days. Their home now boasts a considerably better kerb appeal, with the bonus of a proper drainage solution to deal with the wet months.
