See how the landscaping team created this attractive low maintenance front garden with decorative paving circle.

This garden landscaping project near Bicester, Oxfordshire, was all about simplicity. The clients asked for a low-maintenance front garden that would, in effect, take care of itself.

Our solution was a quick-to-install combination of loose aggregate, paving stones, and a decorative centrepiece. The homeowners liked the idea of a Stonemarket Compass positioned centrally, drawing the eye and tying together the front garden area. While paving circles are typically built into a patio or paved area, they proved just as attractive in this front garden setting.

Our installation team started by removing the old lawn, which had become neglected and knotty with weeds. After disposing of the turf, we covered 95% of the area with grey slate aggregate (6 bags’ worth) and spread it out evenly. Next, we laid the large compass feature in the exact centre of the garden.

The final step was to provide a clear line around the edge of the garden, separating the borders. The homeowners requested a simple, cost-effective solution; we picked out the popular Standard Path Edging Stones to run around three sides of the landscaped area.
